Fashion Victim

At the moment I am reading Fashion Victim, Our Love-Hate Relationship With Dressing, Shopping, And The Cost Of Style by Michelle Lee. I just picked it up this morning and have finished about 50 pages. Two things in particular have really stuck me thus far.

"If we make denim jeans to last three years, what will we sell until they wear out?" Rodney Runyan, page 47

"We are bulimic shoppers-while bulmics binge and vomit food, the Fashion Victim binges on shopping sprees, then upchucks the unwanted garments shortly afterward." page 55

Fashion Victim was published in 2003 and I believe the problems have only gotten worse! I am interested to find what the rest of the book holds.

On another note I suppose everyone has gotten back to school and the weather has started to cool down. Oh forget it! I don't really have anything especially interesting to say right now. I am going back to rearing my book.

Graphic Tees

Everyone has to wear t-shirts. Why not pick up something a little more interesting than the basic? Here is a collection of shirts I love!

Glamour Girl - Target $11.99

Aren't the little puffed sleeves adorable!?

Here is another cute one from Target also $11.99

Here is nice tee from Urban Outfitters

I love that blue color and the stars too! $24

This next tee is also from Urban Outfitters but not availble any longer. How sad! I actually picked it up for $5 at a sidewalk sale a couple weeks ago! Makes me happy.

I hope they carry some more shirts like this in the future. It's so comfy!

I have also picked up some great tees from Wal-Mart of all places! I couldn't find any of the good ones online though. You'll just have to stop by your local Wal-mart to check them out.

Get Into the Swing of Things!

My brother and I have gotten into Swing Dance. It's super fun! In fact, I threw a lovely summer swing party this past saturday. It was so wonferful (even my mom enjoyed it!) I plan on doing the whole thing again sometime! Of course any good girl who wants to swing needs a good dress. DaddyOs.com carries many beautiful retro dresses. I will warn you that most of the models are posed seductively. I personally think most of the dresses in and of themselves are not seductive, just downright cute!

With some dresses it depends on how you carry yourself and act while you are wearing it. I think a lot of these dress could simply be pretty without being sexy depending on your character. Please though, decide for yourself.

Cheery Cherries

As promised, much to long ago, a picture of the adorable cherry necklace I made. It has matching earring too! It's such a cute set. I really enjoy wearing it.

More good news! A local libray is having and Art and Craft Fair in about two weeks. I think I am going to be able to be in it! I am so excited. This means I have lots of work to do. I'd like to showcase not only my jewelry but some beautful skirts. I already so many ideas in my head. Oh! I am just so excited.

One more thing. Are you interested in free jewelry? Check out Silver Jewelry Club

Fashion Scents

Everyone doesn't need a scent. But it's fun to have one, or a few. I don't like scents that are too floral or too citrus ot too much anything! It's got to be the perfect mix. Here are some scents I personally adore.

Chanel No.5 It is the most classic and universally adored scent of all time. The first perfume to really use synthetic floral aldehydes as a good part of the scent. Before synthetics pefume had to be applied very heavily or frequently. Any way, never mind what it made of, it smell good!

Safari This is the scent I currently wear. It is deep and warm yet still feminine. And the bottle is so pretty I couldn't resist! I also like Romance and Blue. Both by by Ralph Lauren.

Love At First Glow The scent I would buy in a hearbeat! I like all the J.Lo scents but this one is the best. It's more innocent and girly. Mostly floral notes with some peach!

A note on scent for guys. I have one real brother and a few more "brothers" who love to wear AXE. You know what I am talking about? Now I love each of these boys dearly and AXE isn't really all that bad. It's just doesn't do anything for me since all my boys wear it, all the time. So, basically what I am getting at, is for the guys, there is a whole world of scents out there just waiting to be worn! So get out there and find one for you. Of course I personally adore the Ralph Lauren Black scent....

A few more imortant notes.
- Don't use a scent to cover up body oder. Take a shower!

- Don't use a bunch of different scents at once time. Just one scented product at a time. (i.e. don't use your favorite lotion, hairspray and perfume all together)

- Don't over do it. A couple spritzes is enough. Really!

Keep Smelling Good!

"I love to see women look as if they were illustrated" says new designer Catherine Holstein.

Well, she certainly succeded. I can't say it is a good thing though. Women aren't meant to look as if they are a piece of art. This is the real world Ms. Holstein. Maybe you can afford to just stand around, but most of us can't.

OK, I guess I am just irritated. She attended Parsons. One of the very best, if not the best, fashion design school around. And this is all she could come up with? Ugly oversized shirts with arm holes and necklines so low if the wearer moves the slightest bit anyone get's a full view of what is underneath. Don't we wear clothes to cover up, not show everything off? What's more, it apparently took six fittings to get the stupid shirts right!

A Catherine Holstein top costs about $400. Too much for most normal people. Let's hope it doesn't spawn knock offs.

Did I mention her last name reminds me of cows?

Oh my goodness! I really wanted yo keep this up. Looks like I haven't been doing a good job. I have moved into a new house (it's wonderful!) and all I have is dial-up for internet.

Anyhow, I also got my first job! I am working at a beadstore. It's pretty intersting. I just made this most adorable necklace. I am going to try and scan it or take a pic or something and show you.

I am also copying a bracelet I saw in InStyle, but it isn't quite finished yet. You will be seeing it though!

I have got to run.

Soho Hair Acessories

Soho makes the best hair clips I have ever owned! I put some in my hair in the morning and I don't have to worry about them falling out all day! If you want to wear your hair down but don't like it in your face Soho carries the perfect little flower clips. If you want to wear your hair back in a french twist Soho carries something beautiful for that too! They also have many gorgeous barettes.

I tried some more inexpensive clips but they just keep falling out of my hair. These really stay and are so pretty too! If you are lucky enough to have a Soho store near you I suggest you give them a try!

You should go to a Soho store (really they are kiosks) near you rather than order online. The website does not give you a good idea of what size each item is.
